For more than four decades, each month CWB has presented a speaker of wit and experience to talk about his or her special knowledge. It is also an opportunity for CWB members to meet one another and the staff. The program runs from 7pm to 9pm, with opportunities to ask questions. March’s 3rd Friday presentation will be held on March 17th.
We’re trying some new things this year for the 3rd Friday Speaker Series and the March event is one of them. Our topic is “The Future of the CWB Boatshop”. First of all, it is an opportunity to meet our Lead Boatwright, Josh Anderson, who joined the staff last November. After an overview of what’s happening in CWB’s floating Boatshop, Josh will host a shop tour so you can see first-hand how he has re-organized it.
Then, it’s back to the Boathouse for an open discussion about the future of the Boatshop. Yep, no speeches. This time, our audience is also our speaker(s).
With the Wagner Education Center opening this year, the capabilities of the shop are going to expand (the new Bill Garden Boatshop will provide 2,600 square feet of space), changing the nature of how our shop is run. Lots of questions come to mind: What direction should we go? What programs can we run? How will this fundamentally change our operations? What challenges does CWB face? Will I finally get a Boatshop shift?
The CWB community is invited to participate and help shape our future.
Josh Anderson is an alumnus of the Apprenticeshop in Rockland. He earned his undergraduate degree in Business from Boston University and a Masters in Maritime Management from Maine Maritime Academy.
His boatbuilding portfolio has focused primarily on small craft and he’s built boats such as a Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 18 and a Joel White 14’ Peapod (featured recently in WoodenBoat). Josh and his wife, Sarah, met at the Apprenticeshop. She taught him to sail on their 25’ wooden Friendship sloop, which they restored and operated as a charter.
